TOBAGO DEASALINATION SYSTEM WITH MARINE THERMAL TRIGENERATION: POTABLE WATER WITH COST SAVINGS ON WATER HEATING AND AIR CONDITIONING
Last years the number of hotels and resorts in the spectacular seaside locations (sea costs, islands, atolls) increased significantly and these places usually have difficulties with fresh water availability. Due to the high demand of fresh water and wastewater treatment, the hotels/resorts need a modern technological solution of these problems.
Desalination of seawater is widely recommended as the most practical solution to supply resort or hotel with potable water. It delivers the economical, technical and environmental benefits that most resorts demand. The average resort with 100 – 120 rooms need at least 60 – 70 cubic meters of fresh water per day.
Tobago provides a series of modular, containerized reverse osmosis desalination plants that produce high quality clean water without the use of chemicals and with reduced energy consumption. All plants have remote management and always connected to Control Center.
Average saving on the cost of the potable water produced by sweater reverse osmosis (RO) desalination is around 50%, compared to conventional methods. However, this saving is not the only advantage of reverse osmosis. In fact, the Marine Thermal Trigeneration (MTT) module could be added to the Tobago desalination system.

In practical terms for a Hotel/Resort this means:
- Zero costs of fossil fuel supply for hot sanitary water production
- Reduction of production costs of cold water for air conditioning systems (at least 30%)
- Reduction of hot sanitary water production costs
Moreover, the energy used by MTT can be entirely of a solar nature, making the system completely autonomous.
